Really cool 'Ye Spider And Ye Flie' Large Victorian Charm.
 
Modelled in gold cased metal, the charm depicts a three dimensional fly caught in an engraved web.
The three dimensional spider has spotted the fly and is creeping towards her, his abdomen made froma faceted pink stone, his head a tiny pearl.
In a circular plaque next to the web is engraved 'Ye Spider And Ye Flie'. - Yeah, we know!
 
The edge of the charm is attractively scalloped.
 
The back has a Kite Mark and a makers mark 'H & N'
 
During the Victorian Era a diamond-shaped Design Registration Mark (1842-1883), known as a “kitemark” was used on jewelry and other decorative arts.
 
These marks were stamped to indicate the date a particular design was registered, similar to a patent mark. 
 
Kitemarks from 1842-1867 consisted of the “Class” (the material - wood, metal or pottery etc)at the top within a circle, the “Year” at the top, the “Month” at the left point, “Day” at the right and “Bundle” (the filing code for the registry office) number at the bottom.
From 1868-1883 the “Day” was at the top, “Bundle” on the left, “Year” on the right and “Month” at the bottom.
 
This would translate here as this piece being registered on the 16th November 1854 as class, metal.
