Tiny french royalist swivel ring with two portraits.
I managed to find a nearly identical portrait in Koch Book II page 481 which shows that one of the portraits is of Louis XVI , and the other is of Louis XVIII - which as a swivel ring symbolises the continuity of the monarchy from Louis XVI to his brother XVIII . The book Koch notes that an almost identical ring is in the Musee des Arts Decoatifs, Paris.
Koch dates the ring 1798 - 1809
But I gave been advised that these rings date to 1814 -1815
Both portraits have a gold painted border
Available on my website now
