This amazing snake locket is from France, circa 1870 and bears the french eagle assay mark on the bail he holds in his mouth.
 
The snake is coiled around a cabochon garnet, which is set into a patterned gold mount which hinges open to. reveal a further glass door and glass back so you can add two photosof perhaps your beloved dogs Edie and Elvis (yes that's right, if it doesn't sell immediately i'm keeping it)
 
The snake is very finely modelled and has that geometric scale like pattern on the head that is so distinctly french, and is enamelled in a very rare grey blue that they call lavendar.
