Stunning 18th Century Swiss Chain With Enamelled Harbour Scene

 

Wonderful Chatelaine chain from the Swiss, the masters of enamel, circa 1780, with a lozenge shaped plaque depicting two harbour scenes, one front, one back, hung on fancy 18 carat gold chains.

The inspiration for the enamels was most likely Claude Lorrain’s ‘A Mediterranean Harbour Scene’ or his ‘Mediterranean Harbour scene with rising sun’ painted in the 18th Century

 

I have moved the chains around to turn this piece into a fabulous necklace with a dog clip below (see final pic for original layout) the enamel from which you can hang charms
