Rare Late 18th Century Not Lost But Gone Before Urn Ring
 
The ring is fashioned as a stylised urn decorated with rubies and old cut diamonds set in silver, with a gold and white enamel lid with diamond finial.
The revrse has a hidden hinged compartment designed as a leaf,
The urn is mounted on a gold and white rococco enamel band with the words 
'NOT LOST....... GONE BEFORE '
The back panel would have said 'BUT' but someone has blocked it out with gold.
At first I thought they did that so that the ring could be sized but it doesn't appear to have been sized.
Maybe someone took exception to the word BUT ??
