Georgian era  Sepia Ring With A Scene Of Two Lovebirds On A Plinth With A Seated Hound And Monogram JD
Beautiful ring, a lovely 18th Century octagonal plaque ring that gently curves around the finger. 
A nice chunky piece of rock crystal with attractive bevelled edges is set over a sepia miniature of a mourning scene, a plinth adorned with a garland of flowers, and seated on it two love birds. 
A whippet or greyhound sits next to the plinth and looks up at the birds. A shield with the monogram JD leans against the plinth. 
The scene is framed by trees and on the ground is a discarded bow and a flaming torch. The birds clearly represent the lovers, and love, and the dog symbolises fidelity. 
The loved one's initials are JD. 
Condition - the top of the miniature has a fine crack and there is a blue mark which we can pretend is the blue sky breaking through the clouds, but I dont know what it is. I just had to buy it. These type of mourning rings with unusual subjects are so hard to find.
