Georgian 18 carat gold ouroboros ring of historical interest. This ring with black enamel crosshatching and old cut diamond in the head was made for (the family of) Joseph Planta, who was the curator of the British Museum for 53 years. - 1744-1827. It has a lock of his hair in a secret compartment and is engraved ‘Joseph Planta Esq. ob 3 December 1827 aet 83 yrs and 9 months’ the ring is hallmarked for 18 carat gold and m for 1827.
