Romantic Georgian Garnet Pendant With Padlock Drop.
The pendant is designed as a central cabochon garnet around which is a gold chain like link of smaller garnets.
Hanging from the bottom is a tiny padlock, also set with a cabochon garnet.
 
I think this is another version of the 'key to my heart' motif, where here a chain encloses the 'heart' and is locked tight via the padlock.
 
The back of the locket is a rich yellow 18 carat gold and is engraved with the inscription 'Mary Cox Ob 3rd January 1831 aet 71'
The reverse of the padlock contains a lock of her hair, and the bottom of the padlock is engraved with EP. 
 
The padlock is decorative and does not open.
