Elegant french 18 carat gold and enamel poissarde earrings circa 1820
Designed as rectangular gold panels decorated with blue and green enamelled pansies.
Above and below the panel are flower shaped motifs in gold with cut out centres decorated with wirework coils.
'Pense a moi' - think of me - is a romantic phrase commonly associated with pansy themed jewelry. Derived from the french word pensée - thought.
The flower symbolises rembrance, affection and parting lovers.

Poissarde earrings got their name from the french fisher women who wore them (evolving from oyster and mussel shell decorated earrings)
