Georgian Lozenge Plaque Ring 'Je Vous Guide' With Striking Old Cut Pink Paste Stones

Beautiful substantial Georgian ring with central sepia and macerated hair miniature depicting a lady in flowing empire line dress and helmet like head-dress.

With her right hand the lady holds a wreath over a heart, on a festooned pedestal. And with her left she holds a tassled spear. She is Athena Goddess Of Wisdom, - At the top of the image it says 'je vous guide' - I guide you, and she is ready to Guide the deceased with her Wisdom.

The miniature is covered by a curved slab of rock crystal with a beveled edge, and around the edge are 24 foiled pink paste or rock crystal old cut stones, so striking and unusual. 

The back is engraved 'T Lock ob 9th Feb 1787 aet 60 - A Lock ob 5th March 1789 aet 50'
