I just love anything with a compass in it!
 
Here we have a 19th Century walking shoe with a mini compass set into the opening of the shoe.
The shoe is finely modelled with little nails on the soles so as not to slip, and all the seams and laces on the top.
Across the front of the show it says 'Konigsslehe' (or something close!!) which would have been a destination on the Victorian Grand Tour, and this would have been a memento from that spot.
I'm thinking it is German or Swiss
 
The compass is rimmed with gold which gives it that lovely mixed metals effect, and is in full working order.
It would look fab hanging from any silver bolt or dog clip
