Wonderful Victorian era miniature corkscrew. This is a real fully functional corkscrew designed to remove corks from perfume and medicine bottles in the Victorian Period.
They are known as Bow corkscrews.
Made of steel with a ribbed design on the bow/handle and the worm (corkscrew) is known as a fluted worm (it is designed with a groove cut into the backside of the worm which allows air to enter the bottle releasing the vacuum hold on the cork making it easier to pull out) the worm folds out and the loop, which becomes a finger pull.
You would have most commonly found these attached to a Chatelaine which the household management and domestic servants and nannies would have had for opening perfumes, medicines and household items with small corks.
Chatelaines were not only made of precious metals, many were made of cut steel (see last image) This one is from France, late 18th century.
The tools include a disc shaped pin cushion, a button hook, a thimble holder with steel thimble, and a folding corkscrew for perfume bottles.
