Really unusual antique silver egg pendant that was probably an Etui part of a Chatelaine.
The egg has a little click button and hinges open to reveal a silver metal thimble which when removed exposes a silver gilt double spool that carries two colours or two different threads.
The spool sits on a rod which has a secret cap. Twist the cap off and inside the rod is a supply of needles!
Around the inner rim of the egg are twelve holes for twelve more needles or pins.
The inside of the lid is gilded with a yellow gold, and is hallmarked.
The egg clicks securely shut and there is a ring at the top so the egg can be hung on a chain.
I have added a bolt so that bigger chains can be clipped on.
Such a rare and unusual thing.
