a pig,

a four leaf clover

a toadstool.

About their meanings

Chimney sweeps have long been considered a source of good luck, not least because they provided security and a warm hearth. It is considered lucky to touch a chimney sweep particularly early in the morning and to be greeted by a chimney sweep carrying a pig on New Year’s Day.

Chimney sweeps are often associated with a number of other good luck symbols. For example, pigs and chimney sweeps are often linked together in tradition as good luck charms. It once was customary for the town chimney sweep to carry a pig through the streets on New Year’s Day; people would pay a small sum to make a wish while pulling a hair from the pig.

As seen on many charms, chimney sweeps are often shown together with various symbols of good luck and good fortune such as pigs, shamrocks, four leaf clovers, horseshoes, and toadstools.

There is a German expression 'Schwein Gehabt' that goes back to the Middle Ages. It means 'He got lucky' when owning a pig meant you would survive the winter without starving.

Three- and four-leaf clovers are a staple of Irish imagery. The Druids believed that they could thwart evil spirits and danger by carrying a shamrock. A three-leaf shamrock would enable them to see the evil spirits and escape in time. A four-leaf clover was said to ward off bad luck and offer magical protection.

In German folklore, the red + white fly agaric mushroom is a Glückspilz, a symbol of luck, protection, and prosperity for the year ahead.
