A really unusual 15 carat yellow gold compass pendant. 
The top is made from a hinged 22 carat gold South African sovereign coin, that hinges open to reveal the mother of pearl compass (which is working well)
The sovereign is rubbed down with use on the outside, but you can read the date - 1898'
The sides of the compass are made from 15 carat gold, with a ribbed pattern, the base set with an uncut bloodstone.

I'm not sure whether the sovereign was always on the compass, or whether it was a replacement, but it has centainly been on there a long long time.
It has a really good opening and closing mechanism.
