Striking amethyst and gold oval orb pendant created circa 1860-1880.
Set with six rectangular faceted amethysts around the centre, and six smaller circular amethysts around the top and bottom.
Inbetween the stones it has been decorated with half circle gold rope twists and round canetille style dots.
This would have been hand applied and is technically known as Etruscan work. At the time there had been archaeological discoveries in Italy and the gold items that were found inspired this technique.
Looks fabulous worn on a long gold chain.
