Charming late 18th Century French Portrait ring.
The face set with an oval miniature under glass of a lady wearing a pink dress and a shawl.
The portrait is surrounded by rose cut diamonds set in silver. The top of the ring has a gold torch and a quiver of arrows that form a cross and inbetween them a little faceted sapphire set in silver.
The trifurcated foliate shoulders and shank are modelled in 18 carat gold and stamped with french marks.
The combination of a torch and a quiver of arrows is a classical motif, often appearing in french 18th century design, and romantic jewelry to symbolise the dual nature of love and affection.
The quiver of arrows symbolises cupid, and the torch when paired with the quiver signifies the burning, intense nature of love.
