A fine Victorian carnelian spinner fob, the top carved as a bird of prey holding a snake in his talons. The frame around the top of the carnelian is carved with a foliate pattern.
The oval carnelian is carved with the initials/monogram E.G.
Hawks have the keenest vision of all the birds therefore, they are seen as visionaries and messengers.
Snakes represent transformation death and resurrection (growth).
Homer's story of a high-flying bird holding a snake in its talons was an indication the
Trojans saw as they attacked the Greek destruction.
