Late Victorian 15 Carat Sardonyx Agate Ring With Anchor Intaglio And Locket Compartment, Decorated Shoulders
Lovely Victorian Anchor Locket ring, with agate central stone, carved with an anchor.
The ring opens (south - north) to reveal a glass locket (empty) that can be removed to add a photo (and replaced)
The shoulders and edge of the face are chased with a pretty foliate design, tapering to the shank in a classic signet style.
The ring is gold and hallmarked for London 1891, 15 carat gold. Some of the hallmarks have been obscured by a sizing but I can see that the Q belongs to that of a London cycle of Hallmarks dating it at 1891, and the 15 stamp is still visible.
The anchor is a symbol of Hope, but also may have belonged to a Naval officer.
A great men's or woman's ring. Large size but can be sized.
