Wonderful and rare Georgian Ouroboros collar with finely woven mesh body, one of those lost crafts - so labour intensive and intricate. 
His duck like head, inspired by the sea serpents of myth, is created from two col gold. The crown of his head is decorated with a pear shaped flat cut almandine garnet as are the square stones on his collar. His eyes are tiny rubies.
His yellow gold head is textured like fine sand, and decorated with gold knife made markings. There is also a fine row of lemon yellow gold around the collar, decorated with leaves, echoed again on his tail which forms the cone like clasp that clicks into his mouth and is edged with tiny balls. 
In Georgian jewelry, the ouroboros, a serpent or snake eating its own tail, symbolized eternity, wholeness, and love everlasting. Because the circular motif had no beginning and no end, it was a highly popular emblem of enduring devotion and an unbreakable, cyclical bond between partners.
